Back in September 2017, Melissa and Aaron got married at the Art Institute of Chicago. They had planned on doing their first look and wedding photos at the Art Institute’s South Gardens. But plans changed when the gardens closed for renovations.
To celebrate their anniversary, we got to make up for lost time and finally take their photos at the Art Institute’s South Gardens.
Tucked away just off Michigan Ave, The South Gardens are a popular spot for engagement and wedding photos. There are usually at least 1-2 other couples or wedding parties in the gardens on any given afternoon. But with the fountain drained for the winter and a storm on the horizon, we had the gardens completely to ourselves.
Why would I want anniversary photos?
A lot of times, people document major milestones in their lives. Things like engagements, weddings, and newborns. But anniversary sessions are a great opportunity to simply document your marriage.
You can approach anniversary sessions in a few different ways. You can use them as an excuse to get dressed up and document a milestone anniversary. Or you can use them as an excuse to play hooky on a random weekday and make a date night out of it, just like Melissa and Aaron did.
Either way, you’ll get a chance to slow down and just be with one another. It’s a chance to forget about the stressors of life, look each other in the eyes, and remember all the reasons you love each other.
